Eat Right!

We say "slimdown" but what we are really talking about is total wellness.  If you've been on the weight loss rollercoaster, then you have to know that reaching and sustaining your goal is not only about exercising, but about eating right.

I will probably devote most of the blog to eating and drinking because we've got the exercise covered.  Plus I cannot tell you how much I LOVE food! Having something great can totally change your mood! What to eat is often the most confusing part of the whole wellness process.  What type of diet (what you eat, not what you do to lose weight) is best for your body depends on, guess what - your body! This is another reason why I keep harping about talking to your doctor - they can help you  with calorie needs, special needs due things like diabetes or cholesterol.

Now that does not mean that you need to starve yourself, because your body will turn on itself.  It will begin to hoard your nutrients, often giving you the opposite of the desired results.  This is not the same for everyone.  And finding that balance between calories consumed and calories burned is like trying to figure out your taxes without a professional or Turbo Tax.

There is help! You're here reading this right? So you are on the right track and we are here to help you!  There is also a ton of help in magazines and websites like livestrong.com, Fitness Mag, Self, etc.  You can also go see your primary care provider for help.  Never be afraid to ask them questions, because they can help you make sure you start on the right track.

Then there are sites like Weight Watchers.  Their new program looks promising and I have heard from a lot of people that they have had success with it... heck... this calorie thing is such a pain that Jill and I joined it, just to make one thing easier in our lives.  If you're interested, check it out!  You're probably saying, "I don't need another expense", but really, it doesnt cost that much... How much do you spend eating out in a month - just for you on your own? The average fast food meal is approximately $6.00 to $8.00, for one person.  Add the hubby and the family and you will probably spend as much as the monthly fee depending on what you all order and where you are ordering it.  Oh and forget the sitdown meal... you can spend about $25.00 for two people EASY!

But I'm not trying to talk you into joining, not at all - but do be aware of what you eat... because Zumbaing with us three times a week is negated if you do not eat well.

So on with the food! Below are links to great websites that are said to have - said to have because I have not tested all of these yet, but use your judgement based on other reviews - great healthy or healthier recipes.  I'll also be posting recipes of the week on a separate page for healthy recipes that have been tried and taste great!!
